About
Connection Through Conservation
Friends of Parks Queensland connects people, communities and partners to protect and restore Queensland’s protected areas. We empower volunteers and support on-ground action that delivers real conservation outcomes across the state.
Our Vision
All protected areas in Queensland are connected to an engaged and supported community that is actively involved in conservation.
Our Mission
To build, connect, and support resilient communities engaged in on-ground conservation, research or education activities aimed at enhancing protected areas across Queensland.
Background
Queensland is one of the most biodiverse regions of the world. Even in our protected areas, biodiversity is under threat. There are over 1,000 threatened species in our state, the majority reside in our protected areas. Friends of Parks are the ultimate friends of nature. Every month, hundreds of volunteers are working to understand and protect our national parks to safeguard our iconic species.
Friends of Parks Queensland was founded in 2022, following the rise in Friends of Parks volunteer groups during the COVID pandemic. The growth of locals interested in giving back to their own backyard couldn’t be matched by support provided by government agencies or other not-for-profit organisations. Our duty as an umbrella organisation is to build the capacity of the community to assist Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships in ecological restoration and threatened species projects. We do this by delivering conservation programs for high-impact outcomes and build new Friends of Parks communities across the state. Our on-ground work relies on grants, volunteers, donations from people like you to fund these critical projects.
Friends of Parks Queensland Incorporated is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. We receive funding to deliver our services and programs from the Queensland Government, competitive grants, and our donors.
