Sunshine Coast Volunteer Event – Dularcha National Park Citizen Science
Join Friends of Dularcha National Park for the first instalment of their Dularcha Discovery Project and for an Echidna Detectives workshop.
From 9am, join a hands-on workshop all about echidnas, led by wildlife ecologist Dr Kate Dutton-Regester from The University of Queensland! Echidnas are one of Australia’s most iconic species — but they’re still poorly understood and data-deficient. This 1 hour workshop is part of Echidna Detectives, a citizen science initiative working to better understand echidna distribution, genetics and diet across South East Queensland. The project is delivered in collaboration with Wildlife Queensland and supported by WIRES, the Queensland Government and the Purpose Earth Grant.
Then, from 10:30am, join Friends of Dularcha National Park for their Dularcha Discovery Project, proudly funded by a Friends of Parks Queensland – Member Group Grant, aims to train the community in wildlife monitoring and expand our understanding of the wildlife in Dularcha National Park, on Kabi Kabi Country, Sunshine Coast. Here, you’ll learn how to deploy cameras for wildlife monitoring using the skills you learned in the Echidna Detectives workshop!
This citizen science event is perfect for nature lovers, bushcare volunteers, conservation students, families, and anyone passionate about protecting Queensland’s natural environment and learning survey techniques. Friends of Dularcha National Park offers a rewarding opportunity to gain practical conservation experience, connect with like-minded people, and help care for one of the Sunshine Coast’s treasured national parks.
New and experienced volunteers are welcome. A moderate level of fitness is recommended. This event is suitable for ages 16+. RSVP is essential.
