Friends of Plunkett Conservation Park

Established in 2025, Friends of Plunkett Conservation Park is a passionate, volunteer-led group dedicated to protecting and restoring one of Loganโ€™s most unique natural areas. Led by a team of enthusiastic young environmentalists, the group works to conserve the parkโ€™s remarkable landscapes, which feature sandstone caves, granite creek systems, and habitat for a variety of rare and threatened plant species.

Plunkett Conservation Park is also a place of deep cultural significance for the Yugambeh people, with strong ecological and cultural values that make it an important conservation area in South East Queensland.

The group hosts monthly ecological restoration events, typically held on the first Sunday of each month, where volunteers help restore habitat through activities such as weed management, native planting, and bush regeneration. Throughout the year, Friends of Plunkett Conservation Park also delivers community engagement activities and citizen science events that connect people with nature and encourage hands-on conservation.

Whether youโ€™re passionate about biodiversity, conservation, citizen science, or simply spending time outdoors, new volunteers are always welcome. Follow their Facebook and Instagram pages to stay up to date and learn how to get involved.

About Plunkett Conservation Park

Plunkett Conservation Park protects an important area of bushland in Logan, on Yugumbeh Country. It conserves a diverse mix of eucalypt forest, melaleuca wetlands, and heath communities. Set within a rapidly growing urban region, the park provides a refuge for native wildlife and contributes to broader ecological connections across South-East Queensland.

The park supports a variety of plant and animal species, including several of conservation significance, and plays an important role in maintaining habitat for birds, mammals, and reptiles. Its wetlands and forested areas also support key environmental functions such as water filtration and flood mitigation, helping to sustain the health of surrounding landscapes.

Plunkett Conservation Park is valued by the local community for its peaceful natural setting, with opportunities for walking, birdwatching, and connecting with nature. However, the park faces ongoing pressures from invasive weeds, urban encroachment, and human impacts.

Active management focuses on protecting native vegetation, restoring degraded areas, and supporting long-term ecological resilience. Through conservation efforts and community involvement, Plunkett Conservation Park continues to safeguard biodiversity while providing an important natural space for the region.
