This weekend marks the launch of the Dularcha National Park Discovery Project, an exciting new community conservation initiative bringing volunteers together to uncover the hidden wildlife of one of the Sunshine Coast’s most overlooked natural areas.

Led by the Friends of Dularcha National Park and proudly funded by a Friends of Parks Queensland Member Group Grant, the six-month project combines citizen science, wildlife monitoring, and hands-on environmental volunteering to build the first preliminary fauna inventory ever undertaken within the park. The project will help improve conservation management while giving local community members the opportunity to actively participate in protecting the Sunshine Coast’s natural environment.

Dularcha National Park is well known for its recreational trails and historic railway tunnel, but much of its ecological value remains understudied. Through this project, volunteers will help deploy trail cameras and acoustic monitoring equipment to detect native wildlife including:
